Cairns' Ironman 70.3 starts in Palm Cove at one of the cities most renowned beaches, Williams Esplanade, where athletes start with a 1.9km swim before they cycle 90kms through tropical rain forest, to finish it all off with a 21.1km run ending at Mount Yarrabah.
Jon decided to participate in Cairns Ironman 70.3 in what he describes as "just a challenge" and had been preparing for the triathlon for over six months. Jon's preparation for the race included a vast change of diet - reducing his alcohol intake and stopping drinking all together in the final two months. Along with dietary changes Jon also trained extensively in cycling, road running and most astonishingly. learning to swim.
Jonathon claims he has never been a strong swimmer and had to develop his freestyle technique for the almost 2km ocean swim leg of the competition.
Already set on beating his personal best, Jon hopes to complete the Mandurah Ironman 70.3 in under five and a half hours, shaving at least twenty four minutes off his original time. Until then you can find Jon in the Cadwell office masking his super strength in true Clark Kent style.
